Summary
FUN Graphs (Financial Underlying Numbers) is a flexible charting tool that lets you visualize and analyze a company’s core financial data. You can plot:
Financial statement data from the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement
A wide range of ratios—including Liquidity, Profitability, and Valuation
Custom formulas for tailored insights
Financial statement data can be displayed in Gross or Per Share format, giving you flexibility to view performance from multiple angles.
Accessing Saved Charts
At the top of FUN Graphs, you’ll see a toolbar containing:
Preset charts created by the FAST Graphs team
Your saved custom charts
To access them, click the folder icon in the toolbar, as shown below:
This opens the Preset & Custom Charts panel, where you can:
Search saved or preset charts
Browse preset charts created by the FAST Graphs team
View and load your saved custom charts
Clicking on any chart in the list will instantly plot it in FUN Graphs.
Pinning a chart to the toolbar
You can pin (or unpin) charts so they’re always one click away.
Click the pin icon to the left of the chart name:
Black pin → chart is unpinned
Blue pin → chart is pinned
Pinned charts appear to the right of the folder icon in the toolbar for faster access.
Tip: The chart in the first position on the pinned toolbar is your default chart when you open FUN Graphs.
You can reorder your pinned charts by dragging and dropping them in the toolbar.
The tool is set up to also allow you to pin and unpin charts from multiple areas, making it easier to organize the tool how you want. For example, you can unpin charts from the toolbar at any time by hovering over the chart name and clicking the pin icon that appears.
You can also pin or unpin a chart in the additional settings menu found next to the “Save Chart” button.
Title and action bar
Below the toolbar you will find a the chart title and some action buttons to the right that allow you to create, save, and edit your current chart.
Clicking on “Save Chart” will override the chart you currently have with whatever changes you have made. Clicking on the dropdown next to “Save Chart” will open up a dropdown menu with some additional actions.
Additional actions
These actions do the following:
Save chart is the same as the “Save Chart” button available outside of the dropdown menu.
Save as new chart allows you to create and save a new chart with whatever settings and data you have on currently on the chart. The benefit of this is that it allows you to make changes to an existing chart as base, and save them as a new chart for future reference.
💡Note: You can perform this action on any of the Preset Charts we have made available to you, so you can modify your own at your own discretion.
Edit metric(s) opens up the metric drawer which allows you to add data to the chart.
Edit chart allows you to edit the title and description of the chart.
Pin/Unpin chart allows you to pin or unpin the chart from the toolbar.
Delete chart will permanently delete the chart.
Changing Timeframes
Below the title and action bar is the period picker. This allows you to quickly change the years of data on the chart from 1 period to the maximum number of periods available. On smaller screens, you’ll have less buttons exposed, but you’ll have a dropdown found on the right side that allows you to pick any of the periods available.
Below the chart, you also have access to a slider that allows you to move the time window around so you aren’t limited to only referencing information from the latest data going backwards.
Chart Data
In the center of the page is the chart area itself with the data plotted. When you hover over any data point, a tooltip appears displaying the values for that specific period.
Adding Metrics
Click the blue Add metric to open the Metric Drawer, where you can choose from:
Financial statement data (Gross or Per Share)
Ratios (Liquidity, Profitability, Valuation)
Custom formulas (create, edit, or delete anytime)
Chart Legend
Below the chart is a legend showing the metrics being plotted. This legend includes several important features that help you customize the chart and provides valuable data for each metric, including:
The color of the metric on the chart
The CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) for the selected time period
The total percentage change over the selected time period
The average value during the selected time period
The median value during the selected time period
The lowest value with its corresponding date
The highest value with its corresponding date
The most recent value with its corresponding date
Reordering the chart data
You can drag and drop the metrics by clicking and holding the drag indicator icon to reorder them according to your preference. This reordering changes how the metrics display on the chart. Items at the top of the legend will appear on the chart from left to right in the same sequence.
Metric Settings
Clicking on the cog icon will open up a settings menu for the specific metric. In this menu, you’ll have access to many new options to customize the chart to your liking.
Series Type allows you to change the data on the chart to be displayed as either a line or a bar.
Styles allow you to change the color of the metric. If you select “Line” in the series type, you’ll also have the ability to change the line style type.
Y Axis allows you to change the axis that the metric is being plotted on. You can either choose to plot the data on the left axis or the right axis. This is particularly useful when trying to plot metrics with very different scales on the same chart. For example, you could plot Gross Sales Revenue and Sales Revenue Per Share on the same chart to analyze the effect of dilution.
Point label allows you to display either the period or the value of the metric itself above the data on the chart.
Below the Point Label exists a list of additional markers you can add to the chart. These will show up as horizontal lines (values on the Y-axis) to give you a visual reference of the data. For example, you can plot the Median value for Sales Revenue Gross. Each additional marker will have its own line color and line style that you can customize.
The Custom Marker will allow you to plot any value you want as an additional marker on the Y-Axis. This is especially useful if you want to plot a line as a threshold to see if the metric has been above or below that value. For example, you can use a custom marker with a value of 1 in conjunction with the Current Ratio to give you a visual representation of when the current ratio has been above or below 1.0.
Custom Formulas
Custom formulas allow you to create your own custom metrics using simple algebra. You add, subtract, multiply, divide, and use exponentials in your own formulas. For example, you can calculate Free Cash Flow Margin (a field we don’t natively offer) by creating the following formula
Creating a formula
To create a new custom formula, click the orange Create Formula button located next to the “Add Metric” button. This will open up the formula editor window on your screen.
The formula editor is split into 2 sections:
The editor
Available fields
The editor is split into a few separate items:
Indicator Name is where you can create/edit the name of the formula
Format lets you choose the format of the formula. Your choices are Currency ($), Percentage (%), and Ratio (x). These fields do not affect the value of the formula itself, but the format sign that is associated with the number.
Example: If you are creating a percentage, like Free Cash Flow Margin, and you want values to show as something like 43%, you’ll need to multiply your formula by 100.
The formula area is where you build your formula. As you type, relevant fields will be suggested automatically, or you can insert them by clicking items from the Available Fields section.
Whenever you create a formula, it is automatically added to the chart.
Adding saved formulas to the chart
To add a saved formula to your chart, click the blue Add metric button and go to the Custom Formulas tab in the drawer. Select the formula(s) you want to include, then click the blue Add metrics button at the bottom to apply them to the chart.
Editing a formula
There are three ways to edit a formula. The first is from the Add Metric drawer, where each formula has a pen icon and a trash can icon next to it. Clicking the pen icon opens the formula editor window, while clicking the trash can icon deletes the formula.
The second way to edit a formula is directly from the chart legend. If a formula is already on the chart, click its underlined name in the legend to open the formula editor. Custom formulas are marked with a unique icon, making it easy to distinguish them from the standard preset metrics.
The third and final way to edit a formula is through the Formula Manager. Click the three-dot menu next to the formula to access options to edit or delete it.
Note: Like preset metrics, custom formulas have a cog (settings) icon in the chart legend. This lets you adjust all the same settings available for preset metrics. However, these changes apply only to the formula on the current chart—they do not affect the formula’s global settings.
Formula manager
The Formula Manager, found in your account settings, lets you manage all of your custom formulas in one place. From here, you can edit or delete formulas, and view details such as how many charts each formula is attached to (hover to see the chart names), along with its creation date and last updated date.
Accessing the formula manager
You can access the Formula Manager in two ways. The first is by clicking your account icon in the upper-right corner of the app and selecting Settings. In your account settings, choose Formula Manager from the left-hand navigation menu.
The second way to access the Formula Manager is from the edit formula window. At the top, next to the X icon, you’ll see a cog icon. Clicking this icon takes you directly to the Formula Manager.
